Manchester United players have swarmed to Chris Smalling’s Instagram after the Englishman scored his first goal for loan side AS Roma on Wednesday night, a cheeky little finish at the back post.
Ah, good old Chris Smalling. The 29-year-old made the move on loan in the summer after his prospective playing time was drastically reduced due to the arrival of Harry Maguire, the club’s world-record (for a defender) signing.
Having started his professional career at humble Maidstone, Smalling, who’s valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, unlikely expected he’d go on to grace one of the two juggernauts from the Italian capital when he was first breaking through, but fast forward to 2019 and he’s established himself as a regular starter having featured in the starting XI six times in Serie A.
Doing what footballers do best, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay hyped Smalling up on Instagram…
