Manchester United plot January Serie A raid

Marek Hamsik (Napoli)Manchester United are lining up a January move for Napoli star Marek Hamsik, according to reports from Le10Sport.

Red Devils chief David Moyes is believed to have made midfield reinforcements his winter priority after missing out on a number of targets during the last window.

The likes of Ander Herrera, Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara slipped through the Scot’s grasp, with Marouane Fellaini – a £27.5m deadline day purchase – his only notable addition.

Moyes has endured a tough start to the Premier League season and is now desperate to add to his squad, with Hamsik one of his top targets.

The Slovakian international has been lauded as one of European football’s top talents for some time now and is thought of as Napoli’s star man.

The 26-year-old only penned a new contract over the summer, but United are hopeful that a bid in the region of £30m may be enough to push through a deal.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is known to be a big fan of his playmaker, and is likely to resist any efforts to lure his talisman away.

Moyes is set to be backed financially in the New Year, with United’s owners keen to rectify their stuttering opening months of the campaign.

Could Marek Hamsik be just the man Manchester United need?
