Manchester United plot move for Villa ace

Chrstian Benteke (Aston Villa)Manchester United are planning a shock January move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to reports from The Mirror.

Red Devils chief David Moyes endured a woeful summer transfer window, with deals for a number of big name players falling through.

He eventually secured the signature of Marouane Fellaini from Everton, but is still believed to be keen to strengthen his inherited squad.

Benteke is one man to have caught the Scot’s eye after an impressive debut season in the Premier League with the Villans.

Although he has Robin van Persie available, Moyes is keen to add greater physicality to his front line and sees the Belgian star as somebody who can offer just that.

He is also preparing for the possibility of Wayne Rooney leaving the club, with his future far from certain.

The 22-year-old penned a new deal at Villa Park over the summer amid interest from Tottenham, but United are confident that the lure of a move to Old Trafford would be enough to convince him to make a switch.

Moyes is also attracted by Benteke’s European availability.

The burly forward would be eligible to play in the Champions League if signed in January, due to Villa not being in any form of continental competition.
