Manchester United poised to move for Celtic star

Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama

Manchester United are thought to be weighing up a bid for Celtic’s midfield enforcer Victor Wanyama before the transfer window slams shut, The Sun reports.

Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance at Parkhead on Tuesday night to run his own personal check on the Kenyan international and will have been impressed after he scored in the 4-0 win over Dundee United.

The goal capped off another impressive display from the much coveted 21-year-old, with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham also credited admirers.

United scouts have kept a close eye on his progress all season and have watched him in every one of the Scottish club’s Champions League games this season.

A series of glowing reports and recommendations from his scouting unit has persuaded Ferguson to move for Wanyama this month and reports indicate he is readying a £10million bid to bring him to Old Trafford.

It’s thought Celtic are only willing to part with the midfielder, who cost them just £900,000 from Belgian club Beerschot last summer, for a fee to the tune of £15million with boss Neil Lennon reluctant to lose his side’s lynchpin.

United aren’t willing to match that figure and could allow 18-year-old Nick Powell to move in the opposite direction until the end of the season to sweeten the deal.
