Manchester United are reportedly preparing a double bid for Benfica stars Enzo Perez and Nicolas Gaitan in the January transfer window.
According to reports from Portugal, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is confident of snapping up the Argentinian midfield duo for a combined fee of around £51 million.
If the Old Trafford manage to pull off the deal, it would be the second time that the club has turned to the Portuguese league in the transfer window under van Gaal’s watch, following on from the capture of Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
United’s January transfer activity is unlikely to end here, with Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman remaining their number one target.
The 24 year-old is still recovering from a lengthy injury at the Italian club but is admired by his compatriot van Gaal, who built his Netherlands team around the player while he was in charge of the Dutch national side.
Strootman would command a fee of around £30 million.
