Manchester United ready to meet Spaniard’s release clause

Koke AthleticoManchester United are plotting a £16m January bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, according to reports from The Express.

The Spaniard has rapidly emerged as on of La Liga’s top talents over the course of the past year, turning in a number of fine displays for the Vicente Calderon-based side.

His consistent performances have lead to links with Barcelona, but United are ready to swoop to beat the La Liga champions to his signature.

Koke has a £16m release clause in his current contract, and David Moyes is ready to match that figure to force through a move.

The 21-year-old has been key in Atletico’s fantastic start to the season, which sees them sit level at the summit of the Spain’s top tier with Barca.

Some have compared Koke with the Champions’ star midfielder Xavi, who is widely regarded as one of the finest players on the planet.

He is seen as a natural replacement for the 33-year-old, who is entering the twilight years of his glittering career.

Moyes is desperate to secure midfield reinforcements after missing out on a number of targets over the summer.
