Manchester United ready to up the transfer ante

Everton defender Leighton BainesManchester United boss David Moyes is preparing a fresh move for Everton full-back Leighton Baines, according to reports from The Express.

The Scot saw a £12m offer for the England international rebuffed by his former employers earlier this summer, but is now ready to come back with an increased fee.

Although the Toffees have stated publically that they are unwilling to allow the 28-year-old to leave, privately they are prepared to do business for the right price, and have even began to scout potential replacements.

Moyes sees his former star man as the ideal player to help stamp his own image on his inherited United side, and replace aging French defender Patrice Evra – who has been linked with a return to Monaco.

It’s likely that Baines would jump at the chance mto play regular Champions League football and would be tempted by the increased likelihood of moving ahead of Ashley Cole for a starting berth in Roy Hodgson’s England team.

Meanwhile, after being thwarted in his attempts to lure Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford, Moyes is said to be keen on Marouane Fellaini.

The combative Belgian enjoyed a successful campaign last term, and is seen as the ideal replacement for Wayne Rooney, who is wanted by Chelsea.

Should David Moyes return to his former club for Leighton Baines?
