Manchester United set for £25m swoop

Everton midfielder Marouane FellainiManchester United are ready to make a £25m move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, according to reports from The Metro.

New Red Devils chief David Moyes is yet to make a major foray into the transfer market since swapping Goodison Park for Old Trafford, and has seen moves for a number of big name players – including Cesc Fabregas – thwarted.

But, in a bid to stamp his authority on his inherited squad, Moyes is ready to return to his former club with a mega money offer for Fellaini, who impressed under the Scot last season.

A central midfielder is believed to be United’s top target for the remainder of the transfer window, and the burly Belgian meets the club’s criteria.

Moyes is particularly attracted to the 25-year-old’s versatility, as he is able to operate in a holding role, or just behind the main striker.

Fellaini himself is thought to be desperate to secure a move to a big club, and has already told close friends that he would jump at the chance to join United.

His £23m buyout clause recently expired, but Moyes has the financial backing to usurp that figure, and offer the big-haired midfielder a £90,000-per-week contract.
