Manchester United set to offer brand new deal

Wayne Rooney Manchester United are preparing to offer Wayne Rooney a new long-term contract, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The England international was widely expected to leave Old Trafford over the summer, after growing frustrated with life at Old Trafford.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho openly chased the forward, but United held firm in their desire to keep him.

With the 27-year-old’s current deal set to expire in 2015, the red Devils are now prepared to make him a big offer to stay beyond then.

It is believed that David Moyes is desperate to keep Rooney at the club, but is willing to hold off on negotiations until the player is settled after a summer of uncertainty.

‘Wazza’ was said to be unsettled following a number of high profile exclusions from the starting XI under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The emergence of Robin van Persie as the club’s new talismanic figure also forced him to question his future, with the Dutchman now the first name of the team sheet.

It is likely that Rooney will be pushed into a midfield role, with Moyes keen to play him off of the main striker.

The former Everton prodigy has played in a deeper position on numerous occasions, and is believed to have all the attributes to succeed in such a position.
