According to The Sun, PSG are keen on signing Manchester United’s underperforming attacker Alexis Sanchez in January.
Since the Red Devils signed Sanchez from Arsenal last January – making him the highest paid Premier League player in the process – the Chilean has failed to produce his best form for his new club.
In 26 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side to date, the 29-year-old has mustered up just four goals in all competitions.
Should United decide to accept an offer from PSG and cut their losses on Sanchez, then not only will the forward go down as an embarrassing transfer flop for the club, his absence will also leave them in need of a replacement.
In terms of taking up Sanchez’s berth at Old Trafford, United ought to look to Ivan Perisic.
With a Transfermarkt valuation of £40.5 million, the 76-cap Croatia international certainly wouldn’t come cheap, but United have already shown that they’re not afraid to splash the cash. What’s more, the Inter Milan man’s skillset is much more in line with what Mourinho’s squad actually needs.
In the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, the Red Devils already have top class finishers. What they lack is elite level creators. Perisic is both a goalscorer and a creator. In his last two full Serie A campaigns combined, he has racked up 22 goals and 22 assists from his left wing berth.
Perisic, who is a far less individualistic player than Sanchez, would bring a much better balance to Mourinho’s frontline than the Chile international offers. For that reason, Perisic is the perfect replacement for the unsuitable Sanchez.
What do you think, United fans – would you prefer to have Perisic or Sanchez at Old Trafford come the end of January?
