There is every possibility the January transfer period will be very busy for Manchester United.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under pressure in the dug-out at Old Trafford, Ed Woodward and Co may be convinced to give the Norwegian some big funds to spend in order to push them up the table and give them a real chance of finishing in the top four this campaign.

The Red Devils have already been linked to several players, such as Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner, and now another name has popped up as well. According to FCInternews.com, they are now interested in Arturo Vidal, who is currently at Barcelona. The report adds that the good relations between Woodward and Fernando Felicevich, the Chile international's agent, may be enough to get the deal over the line.

In the past transfer window, the 20-time English champions made a point of signing players on the younger side. At the age of 26, Harry Maguire was by far the oldest new arrival, with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James being 21 at the time. However, even though Vidal is now 32, they should make an exception in regards to their new policy and attempt to bring in the central midfielder.

In the middle of the park, United are lacking. Paul Pogba is arguably their best player, as his 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions in the previous campaign show, but he has started just five matches this term, and there is still plenty of talk of him departing. Other than him, Fred continues to struggle with a WhoScored rating of 6.68 in the Premier League this term. Nemanja Matic has played just three league games, which leaves only Scott McTominay. Even though he has performed well - he has three goals already from a more defensive role in midfield - he cannot do it all on his own.

Vidal would be a perfect addition, if only for the short-term. Currently valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, and with just 18 months left on his contract, he would not cost the club a fortune. During an illustrious career, he has picked up 11 league titles, showing he has the experience and winning mentality to succeed, and his performances for his various clubs have often caught the eye.

He is an all-action midfielder, and has many attributes to his arsenal. He is a regular goalscorer, having netted at least 10 goals in the league alone in three campaigns, whilst he has also contributed his fair share of assists. He is perhaps even better defensively, with him averaging more than two tackles per game throughout his time as a professional.

With 113 caps to his name, he would also be able to share some of his wealth of experience with the younger, promising members of United's squad such as Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes. This one is really a no-brainer. Woodward should be doing all he can to take the former Bayer Leverkusen man to Manchester.
