Manchester United should target struggling Gareth Bale

A poll of Real Madrid fans, conducted by Marca, has revealed that the Bernabeu faithful believe Gareth Bale to be the club’s worst performer this season.

What’s the word?

In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, many expected the Welshman to finally take centre stage for Los Blancos, but the 29-year-old’s form has been as poor as the club’s recent results. Bale’s current lack of popularity in Madrid could be the catalyst for interested clubs to make a move for the attacker in January.

Manchester United would likely be at the front of the queue to sign Bale. The Red Devils are certainly one of the few clubs in world football to whom the forward’s £81 million Transfermarkt valuation would prove to be little obstacle.

Jose Mourinho’s squad at Old Trafford is in dire need of revitalisation and they would certainly receive a huge boost by being able to welcome Bale back to the Premier League.

Making a statement

Despite his current struggles on the pitch, the 72-cap Wales international remains a world class player. His stunning brace in last season’s Champions League final is evidence enough of that.

Whilst United have to reinforce their defence as a priority, opportunities to land a player of Bale’s calibre don’t come around very often and his arrival would be a major statement of intent from a club who are struggling to compete at the very top.

United ought to seize this chance to bring in Bale, as he is a player capable of firing them back into contention for the top prizes in the game.

What do you think, United fans – should the club launch a move for Bale?
