Manchester United stalwart set for West Ham switch

Darren Fletcher is on the verge of leaving Manchester United and will pen a three-and-a-half year deal at West Ham United, according to the Telegraph.

The 30-year-old Scotland international has been with the Red Devils for his whole playing career, having joined their youth academy as an 11 year-old, but has found first-team opportunities limited at Old Trafford since the arrival of Louis van Gaal as manager and is now prepared to leave his boyhood club.

Although the Hammers are rating the chances of Fletcher singing for the Upton Park club at only “50/50”, the Scot is expected to finalise the deal, despite reported interest from Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion and Spanish side Valencia.

Fletcher has made 16 appearances this season but only four of them have been starts. The 30 year-old made his return to football last season following a long-term illness. He has made more than 300 appearances for Manchester United, lifting the Champions League and a number of Premier League titles.
