Wayne Rooney has reportedly blamed Manchester United for trying to force him out and claims he never handed in a transfer request.
The England international has hit out via the Daily Mirror, who report that the now retired United boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s recent claims that the player asked to leave Old Trafford were wide of the mark and it is the club that have been trying to offload him.
Indeed it was also suggested that Ferguson explored the option of offering deadly rivals Manchester City Rooney in a player-plus-cash exchange for England international goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Rooney found himself played out of position by Ferguson and was even left out of the side for the massive second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid at Old Trafford last season.
The Mirror claims the 27-year-old did ask Ferguson for clear-the-air talks but never did he put in an official transfer request. And Rooney feels that Fergie has merely put in the groundwork to make it easy for new boss David Moyes to move him on this summer.
As a result, Rooney feels it would be difficult for him to remain at United given that a section of the fans have already turned against him.
Therefore it will be no surprise if he does move on with Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Chelsea and Arsenal all thought to keeping tabs on the situation.
