The Belgian arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day in a £27.5m deal from Everton, following new manager David Moyes from Goodison Park.
As the Scot’s only major signing of the summer, the big haired midfielder is expected to become a first-team regular with the Premier League champions.
This will put him in direct competition with Carrick for game time, but the England international says that he is not worried about Fellaini’s possible impact and is happy to have him at the club.
“It’s something I welcome,” Carrick told the Manchester Evening News.
“The more top quality players you have in your squad, whether it’s in my position or not, the better it is for the team.
“It’s not a case of me thinking ‘I might not be in the team’. I will have to play well to be in it, regardless.”
Fellaini was a key part of Moyes’ Everton squad, and was the manager’s top target for much of the transfer window.
The new Red Devils chief has been criticised by many fans and pundits for his lack of signings throughout the summer, with a number of high profile targets having opted against moves to United.
Will Marouane Fellaini prove to be a hit at Old Trafford?
