As quoted by the club’s official website, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed Manchester United star Paul Pogba after his display in the 4-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks and months have linked the 26-year-old with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, even though Solskjaer publicly admitted his intentions to build the team around him.

Now, the United boss has heaped praise on the Frenchman after his performance helped the Red Devils secure a resounding victory over their rivals.

He said: “I think Paul can do many jobs. He can do the attacking midfield job. Today, he was more of the link player and when you’ve got (Victor) Lindelof, Maguire and (David) De Gea at the back, you can play like that. He was asked to play that sitting role and he had to do lots of running in the first half, but we’re fit and he’s fit. That third goal is a fantastic pass and the run for the fourth – I just wanted him to go all the way and open his legs and finish it himself.

“I’ve always said he’s a top lad and its such a professional. He loves playing football. He grows more at Old Trafford. He’s a World Cup winner and there’s no point of letting yourself down on the pitch. He lost it a few times but it doesn’t matter.”

Professionalism

After being at the centre of intense transfer speculation all summer, it would have been easy for Pogba to down tools on Sunday. Instead, the former Juventus star put the rumours to one side and delivered a performance more befitting of the £89m United initially shelled out for him.

Whilst there were moments of casualness that saw him lose the ball a few times, the midfielder was back to his marauding best and produced two fine assists for his teammates. The transfer window remains open in other major European leagues, so Pogba could still be on his way out of the club. But if he doesn’t go, then his display against Chelsea showed he is more than professional enough to not let it affect his performances.
