According to Spanish publication Diario AS, Manchester United star Paul Pogba regrets not forcing through a move to Real Madrid this summer.

What's the word?

Reports in recent weeks and months had linked the France World Cup winner with an Old Trafford exit, and there were suggestions Madrid were "increasingly confident" they could sign him.

However, despite leaning into all the speculation by claiming there is a "question mark" over his United future, the chances of him making a late departure appear to be diminishing.

Now, Diario AS claim the 26-year-old is regretting not pushing through a transfer, although it adds Zinedine Zidane will look to make one final effort to land his summer target.

Seriously?

Aside from potentially handing in an official transfer request, Pogba has arguably done everything he can in trying to push through a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. His altercation with United supporters appeared to kick things into gear, and then he spent the entire summer dropping hints that he wanted a "new challenge". Not to mention his brother Mathias trying to engineer a move away for him too.

So the report's claim that Pogba feels he could have really forced through a move is simply baffling. The midfielder is finding out to his own detriment that player power perhaps isn't as strong as is often made out. The Frenchman can kick up all the fuss in the world with sly comments to the media and his interactions on his Instagram page, but the Red Devils have well and truly delivered a modern-day masterclass in ensuring that no one player is bigger than the club.
