Cristiano Ronaldo has promised Real Madrid president Florentino Perez that he will be staying at the club, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Portuguese superstar has been linked with a possible return to Manchester United this summer, while rich French outfit Paris St Germain are also understood to be monitoring the situation.

Real Madrid’s public pursuit of Gareth Bale has called Ronaldo’s future into further question, although now the Spanish media are reporting that the 28-year-old has agreed to stay at the Bernabeu following face-to-face talks with Perez.

The ex-United star is said to be extremely happy working with new boss Carlo Ancelotti, and is excited by the prospect of teaming up with Gareth Bale next season.

The news will come as a disappointment to United fans, with some reports suggesting last week that a deal to bring the forward back to the Premier League was at an advanced stage.

Real are adamant their star man will be staying put however, and are even drawing up plans for a contract extension.

Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes are looking to thrash out a deal that would see the forward’s contract extended until 2018.

The new deal would see Ronaldo pushing £13million a year at the Spanish giants, while also offering him a larger portion of image rights – an issue that is believed to have been a problem in the past.
