According to reports from the Mirror, Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan is set to stay at Borussia Dortmund.
The 24-year-old had claimed earlier in the season that he was not set to sign a new deal at the German club but it appears the midfielder may have had a change of heart.
Dortmund genereal manager Hans-Joachin Watzke has claimed “there is still a chance that he has a rethink. We are in talks and Ilkay is a decent lad.”
The news comes as a bitter blow for Louis van Gaal who had pinpointed Gundogan as a potential lynchpin of his new midifield.
Gundogan has one year left on his deal and United were confident they would be able to secure the German international.
The midfielder has been at Dortmund for four years following a move from Fc Nurnberg in 2011 and has won one Bundesliga title during his stay.
The Dortmund midfielder has also made 11 appearances for the Germany scoring three goals.
