River Plate youngster Eder Balanta has expressed his desire to move to Barcelona after the Spaniards showed an interest in the defender, as reported by Sky Sports.
Balanta only signed his first senior contract with River Plate this summer but is considered one of the best defenders in South America already.
Clubs from around Europe, including Manchester United, have been scouting the Colombian but it appears Barcelona are set to make a move for the 20 year old in January as they step up their hunt to bolster their creaking defence.
Balanta would be the first Colombian to ever play for the Catalan club and that is something he is excited about.
“As far as I know, there hasn’t been a Colombian playing for Barcelona. I would be the first one in the history of the club.
“If it’s true, I would be very proud. If it’s not, I will try to keep doing things like I have done up until now.
“I have played a few games in the first division and I have to keep going this way – working hard, doing things correctly with effort and sacrifice, in the same way as all of my team-mates.”
