Manchester United to launch shock Newcastle raid

Manchester United are plotting a surprise summer move for Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The holding midfielder has long been thought of as one of the Premier League’s best destroyers, but has suffered a dip in form over the course of the past year.

However, that has not deterred David Moyes.

The Scot is desperate to add some steel to his central ranks after addressing attacking worries last month with a club record £37.1m swoop for Juan Mata.

Moyes is believed to have attempted to land the rugged Ivorian during his spell at Everton, but is more confident of doing so now he is at the helm of, arguably, English football’s most prestigious club side.

The 27-year-old is likely to jump at the chance to join the Old Trafford outfit, which could ease a deal at the end of the season.

Tiote is seen as the perfect foil for the Red Devils’ abundant attacking threats, and the sort of player who possesses the mobility that they’ve been lacking at times this season.

Newcastle may be reluctant to sell after allowing Yohan Cabaye to move on, but a big offer might tempt their owner, Mike Ashley.
