Manchester United to miss out on January target

Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid )Manchester United could miss out on a January deal for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, with the Argentine closing in on a switch to Monaco, according to reports from The Express.

The South American ace has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time, and is believed to be one of David Moyes’ top targets heading into the coming transfer window.

However, the Premier League champions may be unable to secure a deal, with Di Maria thought to be edging towards a big money move to Monaco.

Reports suggest that the 25-year-old is already in contact with the French giants, with his agent keen to tie up an arrangement.

Di Maria elected to stay at the Bernabeu over the summer in a bid to force his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, despite interest from top sides from across Europe.

After initially being a first-team regular, the former Benfica man has slipped down the pecking order following Gareth Bale’s return to fitness, and looks set to endure a season on the bench in the Spanish capital.

Monaco are said to be keen to lure him to the Mediterranean coast with a huge tax-free salary, as they did with the likes of Radamel Falcao earlier this year.

The news will come as a blow to Moyes, who was thought to have seen Di Maria as an the perfect player to inject some creativity into his side’s attack.
