Manchester United to up the transfer ante for Spaniard

Ander HerreraManchester United are planning a fresh offer for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, after seeing their initial £21m bid dismissed, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils have turned to the 24-year-old Spaniard as David Moyes’ search for a big signing continues.

Herrara is seen as one of the top midfield talents in La Liga, and has been a key part of Athletic’s first-team for some time.

Understandably, the Basque side are far from keen to let the playmaker go, but, they will be forced to do business if United offer £25.5m.

This sum would trigger an escape clause in the youngster’s contract, allowing him to discuss a move to Old Trafford.

Bilbao’s president, Jose Urrutia, confirmed that a deal will only be reached if this figure is met:

“For a player to leave he needs to state his intentions to leave and (the club) pay the buyout clause.”

United are also keen on Roma’s Daniele De Rossi.

The midfielder has been linked with Chelsea this summer, but Moyes is now interested.

An opening £10m offer has been turned down by the Serie A giants for their talismanic midfielder, but the Premier League champions may return with an improved bid.

Manchester United fans, would Ander Herrera be a wise investment? Or are you upset that you’ve missed out on Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara?
