The Premier League champions are keen to bring the French youth international to Old Trafford this summer, and where rumoured to have already made a bid for the 20-year-old.
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has revealed an offer was made for Kondogbia, but it needs to be £8.5million:
“We have rejected an offer for Kondogbia – the bid was not sufficient,” Del Nido revealed.
“Our idea is that he continues growing at Sevilla, just like he did last year. But there is a release clause that says if we have a written offer of £8.5million, we must accept it and he can go.”
The youngster could be a long term replacement for Paul Scholes, who announced his retirement from football for the second time in May. The 20-year-old made 31 La Liga appearances last season, scoring the one goal.
Kondogbia is on international duty with the French Under-20 side, who are competing in Turkey in the Under-20 World Cup. The Sevilla midfielder could feature for his nation in their Round of 16 match against the hosts.
England were knocked out of the competition, finishing bottom of their group with just 2 points.
Would Kondogbia be a good signing for United? Is he ready for the Premier League?
