Football players have a tendency to hype each other up over the smallest of things because, well, that’s what footballers tend to do.
Pictured running during training? That deserves at least four fire emojis. First time successfully making a piece of toast? 10 fire emojis, a fist, and a pair of clapping hands for good measure. And let’s not even get started on when they video each other dancing in the dressing room.
Indeed, there are precious few things footballers do that actually warrant the kind of praise they lob each other’s way on a regular basis. But, then again, that’s not such a bad thing.
Deep down we all wish someone would clap us every time we successfully avoided turning our morning porridge into concrete or an oat-y volcano, really.
Manchester United midfield Jesse Lingard tops our unofficial table as one of the most ferocious users of emojis and biggest hype merchants in the footballing world (check his Instagram activity and you’ll understand what we mean). And he was up to his old tricks, albeit in a little more subtle way than usual, when he directed praise at teammate Angel Gomes.

The youngster played well during United’s pre-season tour and has made a real case for himself for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
We dare say that, for as long as “J Lingz” keeps up his barrage of superlatives, Gomes will be riding on supreme confidence. And that’s a really, really good thing.
