Many Manchester United fans were left extremely disappointed last summer when high rated midfielder Andreas Pereira was sent out on loan for a second season by Jose Mourinho.  Many fans felt he was ready for first team football at United.

The midfielder is set to return to Old Trafford in the summer after helping Valencia challenge for a Champions League place in La Liga.

Whats the story?

According to ESPN, the midfielder will seek assurances from Mourinho about his role next season before deciding on his future.

At the start of the season Mourinho said he wanted to keep the 22-year-old but Pereira felt a loan move would be better for his development.

Pereira, who signed a contract extension last summer, is keen to establish him at Manchester United and has long-term ambitions to become a key member of the squad.

ESPN reported that the coaching staff at United have been impressed with Pereira while he has been at Valencia. Despite this United are linked with a number of midfielders as the look to bolster their squad with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini stalling contract talks.

Should Pereira be given a chance next season?

Pereira has been part of the youth ranks at United since Sir Alex Ferguson signed him aged 16. He was a key member the youth squads and has continued to impress under different managers.

It is clear that the Spaniard has loads of ability and if her were to be given a chance could prove to be a great addition into the squad.

Despite extremely high spending on attacking players over the last five years, it has been players who have been at the club who have impressed Manchester United fans the most.

Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Scott McTominay, Antonio Valencia and Marcus Rashford have been at the club for several years at different age groups and understand the ethos of the club.

Pereira will share this ethos and will add something that is missing to the Manchester United squad. He can play pretty much anywhere in midfield from a number 8 to a wide midfielder.

He is an extremely confident young man with a lot of ability; he has an eye for goal, he is two footed, extremely skilful and has pace.

If he were to return to United, he will surely push hard for a starting spot. Mourinho has trusted young players since he has been manager at Old Trafford and should do the same with Pereira who looks like someone who can be a real star.
