Manchester United’s ‘Dream Midfield’ next season

It’s no secret that a lack of quality in midfield has been a decisive factor in Manchester United enduring their worst domestic form of the Premier League era this season, with the likes of Nani, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini lacking the talent, flair or pace of their illustrious predecessors.

The Red Devils have just announced Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal as their new manager however, and reportedly armed with a £200million spending war-chest, the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich gaffer will undoubtedly be keen to invest heavily in a new midfield cast this summer. The Express believe a deal for Bayern’s Toni Kroos has already been agreed.

So with that in mind, this article takes a look at what would constitute the Old Trafford side’s ‘Dream Midfield’ next season, combining United’s best performers this year (admittedly, very few) with transfer targets fans would love to see join the club this summer.
