Manchester United’s ‘Dream Starting XI’ under Simeone

Hot off the press this morning; although Manchester United have held talks with Louis van Gaal over the management vacancy at Old Trafford, a dispute over the role of Ryan Giggs and the Red Devils current coaching staff could blockade the Netherlands gaffer’s much-expected Carrington arrival, according to The Independent.

Resultantly, it’s believed the Premier League champions will venture all alternative avenues before agreeing terms with the trophy-laden Dutchman, which in turn could thrust them into the hands of Diego Simeone – current Atletico Madrid boss and a rank outsider for the Old Trafford post.

The Argentine is famous – or should that be infamous –  for his disciplined 4-4-2 philosophy, but there’s no doubting its effectiveness; Simeone has lead the Mattress Makers to pole position in La Liga this season, as well as a Champions League semi-final.

With that in mind and in addition to news that Manchester United plan to spend around £200million on new recruits this summer, here’s a look at what the Red Devils’ dream starting XI might look like under the Vincente Calderon boss.
