Memphis Depay has been urged to reject a potential summer move to Manchester United in favour of staying at PSV Eindhoven by former Netherlands international Johnny Rep.
The Oranje winger has been in fantastic form for the Eredivisie giants, notching a staggering 20 goals in 27 league games, which played a major role in securing the title for the Philips Stadion side.
With Louis van Gaal having coached Depay at international level before taking charge at Old Trafford there have been numerous links between the club and player, with recent reports suggesting that talks are underway.
However, Rep feels that that the 20-year-old should opt against a big transfer in the next window and instead stay with PSV for the good of his career and development:
“The top clubs in Europe have such great squads,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.
“With competition like this, the chances are pretty high that you get little playing time.
“Just look at a striker in the form of Radamel Falcao at Manchester United.
“Depay has the ability to go far and I also believe that Van Gaal would let him play football.
“But it would be a shame if he ends up somewhere on the bench. So I advise him to stay for another year at PSV.”
United are not the only English side interested in Depay, with bitter rivals Liverpool also chasing the attacking starlet.
