According to RMC Sports, Manchester United rejected offers from both Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid for Anthony Martial this summer, and certain executives at the club even want the Frenchman to agree a new five year contract with the club.
The aforementioned report states that there are currently frictions at Old Trafford between Martial and manager Jose Mourinho, who dropped the 22-year-old from his last matchday squad as the Red Devils suffered a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Spurs.
With the European transfer window still open for the next few days, time remains for Martial to stage an Old Trafford exit. However, it appears that doing so could cause a significant rift amongst the United hierarchy.
For the good of Martial’s career though, a move could be the best next step for him at this time. Unless it looks like Mourinho will be forced out of Old Trafford first.
If Martial feels that it is likely that the Portuguese boss will be ejected from the Old Trafford hot seat before long, then there may still be an opportunity for him to salvage his career with the Red Devils.
However, if Mourinho looks set to continue in his role for the foreseeable future, then the French international should take the opportunity of this summer window to seek pastures new.
In order to stand any chance of forcing his way back into Didier Deschamps’ national side plans then he must be playing regular football at club level, which doesn’t look likely if things don’t change at Old Trafford soon.
