As reported by The Daily Mail, Manchester United have recently sent scouts abroad to check on the progress of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

What's the story?

Having finally conceded the title to Manchester City at the weekend, everyone involved with United is now thinking ahead to next season and what's needed to mount a sustained challenge for the English Premier League trophy.

One player apparently on their radar is Lazio man Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Mail report that United sent scouts to Austria to take in Lazio's match with RB Salzburg, specifically to observe the Serbian international in action.

Is he the kind of player that the Red Devils should be recruiting this summer?

Good enough?

These days, to get the truly elite level of player, you are paying for potential as much as proven track record and while Milinkovic-Savic is reported to be rated at a massive £89m, the player is undoubtedly one of the most exciting midfielders on the continent.

Still just 23 years of age, last season he was a stand-out for Lazio, scoring seven and creating 10 assists. This season so far he’s already scored 11 times and created seven assists, further demonstrating he’s a player who likes to make an impact in the final third as much as providing a defensive contribution.

A midfield all-rounder, he could be the perfect partner for the likes of Paul Pogba, or even be deployed in a more advanced role.

There’s no guarantees when you spend a huge fee on a young talent, but if Man United don’t sign this developing star, then another giant club will likely beat them to it.
