Van Persie led United to their 20th top-flight success in his first season at Old Trafford, and scored 58 goals in 105 appearances for the Red Devils overall to cement himself in the supporters' good books.

He was due to play his last game in professional football with Feyenoord against Fortuna Sittard on Wednesday, but that plan has now changed with the 2-0 defeat to ADO Den Haag on Sunday his last.

His retirement has left the United fanbase romanticising over his efforts for the club.
