Jose Mourinho has become increasingly confident that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will be sacked at the end of the season, report the Daily Star.
The former Chelsea manager has been strongly linked with taking over from the Dutchman at the end of the season, whether or not he leads them to Champions League.
While there were reportedly initial doubts from the United hierarchy about the 53-year old’s suitability for the role, he is now more confident of landing the post.
He has been out of work since sensationally being given his marching orders by Chelsea just seven months after leading them to their first Premier League title in half a decade.
Understood to have recently rejected the job at Valencia following Gary Neville’s sacking earlier this week, the ex-Inter Milan and Real Madrid is all but certain he will end up at Old Trafford, according to the report.
