Jose Mourinho managed to end his hapless run of form last night with a crucial 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the EFL Cup, setting up a quarter-final tie with West Ham at the end of November, and the Portuguese boss caught the headlines with his actions post match.
Having been dragged through the mud after United’s awful performance against Chelsea on the weekend – the 4-0 loss stands as Mourinho’s second-worst defeat in his managerial history – ‘The Special One’ used last night to apologise to the fans after the final whistle against the Citizens.

The Red Devils’ win last night brought an end to a woeful run of form for Mourinho’s side, who had looked uninspiring in their trip to Anfield a week ago in a 0-0 draw before being torn apart by Chelsea – a defeat which leaves them six points behind the title leaders.
Being in the EFL Cup, though, last night’s victory is unlikely to have a huge impact on the views towards Mourinho and he must ensure his side performs in the next week-and-a-half against Burnley, Fenerbache and Swansea City.
