Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has rejected the chance to link up with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to reports from MARCA.
The French defender was signed by the La Liga giants during ‘The Special One’s’ time at the Bernabeu, and ‘Mou’ himself lauded the now 23-year-old while they were working together, describing him as “the best young defender in the world”.
Mourinho, now in charge of Man United, is believed to be on the lookout for a new centre-back, despite the addition of Eric Bailly from Villarreal, but reports claim that Varane will not be heading to Old Trafford.
Indeed, MARCA claim on their front page (below) that the silky enforcer has said ‘no’ to a move to Manchester, with his Los Blancos boss, Zinedine Zidane having persuaded him to stay put.
Varane himself has been behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the pecking order at Real, but he may be in line for more game time with the Portuguese and Spanish pair not getting any younger.
