Mourinho to kick off Man United rebuild with offer for midfield star this week

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to initiate his transfer plans with a £10m offer for West Ham’s Reece Oxford this week, according to reports from The Sun.

The teenage ace burst onto the scene during the season just gone, with his performance on the opening day of the campaign against Arsenal, at the age of 16, earning widespread praise.

The now 17-year-old’s outings were, however, few and far between through the rest of the season, but he’s still considered to be one of the finest young players in English football.

And reports claim that his emergence has alerted new Man United boss Mourinho, who is likely to delve into the transfer market over the coming months with a budget of around £270m at his disposal.

It’s understood that a £10m offer could be put to West Ham before the week is out, although the Irons are likely to be reluctant to sell.

Oxford is primarily a holding midfielder, but he has also been used as a centre-back by Slaven Bilic of late.
