Manchester United have reignited their interest in Ivan Perisic just days after he helped knock England out of the World Cup, according to Paris United, via the Sun.
The report says that United are in advanced talks with the Inter Milan winger, who was close to making the switch to Old Trafford last summer and that his representatives are set to fly to Manchester to finalise the deal.
The report claims that it is simply a case of ironing out the formalities and it also recalls Mourinho’s praise of Perisic after he scored one and set up the other in Croatia’s 2-1 win over the Three Lions on Wednesday night.
Mourinho said: “Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others. Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative but he is also physical, very physical, fantastic in the air.”
Perisic enjoyed a strong second half against England as the game became a physical battle and he was able to take advantage as a steady stream of crosses came from the Croatia right, allowing him to sneak in between Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier.
However, in tight matches, he lacks the guile to unlock the door and he is would be another battering ram signing from Mourinho when United need more players who can pick a lock.
If United do sign him, it would show that Mourinho has misjudged United’s flaws; they are currently a physical, tall team who are ponderous and slow – Perisic, who measures up at 6ft 1in (1.87m), would worsen that problem.
