Fotospor are reporting that Manchester United have made an approach for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.

What's the story?

The Red Devils appear to be on the look-out for a new striker following the injury to Marcus Rashford, which is expected to keep him out for the next two months.

The big fat United quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Man Utd?

25-year-old Muriqi is the latest man whom Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be interested in, with them even having contacted his agent, Haluk Canatar. However, the deal is unlikely to go through with the approach having been made so close to the end of the transfer window.

Shrewd signing

Considering United have been linked with Edinson Cavani in recent weeks, a move for Muriqi may be seen by some as an anti-climax. However, it could be a shrewd move from Solskjaer.

The 25-year-old has been in fantastic form so far this campaign for his current club. In 17 matches in the Super Lig, he has 11 goals, and he has also netted one in two in the Turkish Cup as well. Last season, he bagged 17 goals in 34 matches for Caykur Rizespor, showing that his performances this term are not just a flash in the pan.

Not only that, but he also scored four goals for Kosovo in six matches during the qualification process for Euro 2020. So he may not be a glamorous name, but he could very well be a interesting addition for the 20-time English champions - a striker who clearly has an eye for goal and will arrive at Old Trafford in hot form, having bagged four goals and three assists in his last six Super Lig outings.

Mason Greenwood may have done well so far this term, having managed 11 goals in 31 matches, but at just 18 years of age, he is surely too young to be burdened with the pressure of leading United's front line.

Muriqi, therefore, would be a fantastic arrival for the short-term, and may even be able to provide strong competition in the long-term. It is not too late for United to make good use of this transfer window - however it seems they'll have to do a lot to convince Fenerbahce to part with their star man.

In other news, United wish to make a big bid for this Ligue 1 forward.
