According to the Manchester Evening News, David De Gea is on the verge of signing a new contract at Old Trafford.
The Spain international has been enjoying some stunning form for Manchester United this season, and is currently higher than Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny and Manchester City’s Joe Hart in the Premier League saves charts with 50 in 23 appearances, also keeping six clean sheets in the process.
The Red Devils No.1 was strongly linked by The Daily Mail with a move to Real Madrid during the January transfer window however, with manager Louis van Gaal even admitting a move to the Bernabeu was a realistic possibility.
But MEN now claim in the article above that the 24-year-old is poised to pen new terms with the 13-time English champions, with just 18 months remaining on his current deal. They also report his wage package could jump up to a whopping £200k per-week.
Sky Sports’ La Liga correspondent Guillem Balage however, believes even a new contract may not be enough to prevent the European champions landing their desired target in the summer.
