Monaco’s vice-president has confirmed Manchester United striker Anthony Martial rejected a bigger offer in order to move to Old Trafford, according to reports in the Metro.
The 19-year old completed a sensational £36.6m deal, potentially rising to around £58m if certain criteria are met, on deadline day – becoming the most expensive teenager in world football.
The Frenchman has had a blistering start to life in England, scoring four goals in his opening five appearances in the club and has received widespread acclaim.
Now, Vadim Vasilyev – second in command at the Ligue 1 side – has confirmed there was another offer on the table for the young hitman.
‘There was another club that offered even more than United’, he admitted.
‘But the boy wanted to go to Manchester, it was his dream.’
The Red Devils’ new Number 9 was the subject of heavy scrutiny following his move last month, but looks to have allayed fears after a string of excellent performances.
United sit atop of the Premier League table, and recently recorded their first Champions League win of the season over Wolfsburg.
