When a player is involved in a transfer saga, it is often seen as an incredibly troublesome situation for the club. Will he stay or will he go? What could be the potential effects on the players around him? Questions race through the mind as teams try to best decide where to lay to their chips.

In recent weeks, Manchester United have seen Paul Pogba become the front and centre of interest from abroad, amid claims that the Frenchman wants out of Old Trafford this summer. Real Madrid and Juventus have been the strongest suitors for the 26-year-old's signature, but it appears a Manchester exit for the midfielder is slowly dwindling.

According to The Guardian, Pogba is now increasingly likely to stay with the Red Devils as the club have yet to receive a bid from any interested sides. Whilst the initial perception of a self-professed want-away star remaining at a club may seem disastrous, it could just prove to be inspirational.

A point to prove

In essence, the apparent reluctance of both Madrid and Juventus to actively pursue a move for Pogba should be treated as insulting by the France World Cup winner himself. If the two European giants truly wanted the midfielder at their respective clubs, progress would surely have been made by now.

Instead, the Frenchman has had to travel on United's pre-season tour whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has openly backed him over claims of him being a divisive figure. Rather than wallowing in self-pity and throwing a strop that he potentially didn't get the move away he wanted, Pogba could dust himself off, put his foot down and be ready to make a statement next season.

The age-old chip on the shoulder can often be the biggest driving force in any individual's career, and in Pogba's case, Madrid and Juventus' lack of action could provoke a reaction that United would be the biggest beneficiaries of. For all the criticism he received last season, the 6 foot 3 star registered 16 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. Imagine the performances that could come if he had the extra motivation of proving two European superpowers wrong.

The maverick midfielder has proven himself to be an extrovert, a flamboyant personality who wears his heart on his sleeve. Professing his inner desire to seek a "new challenge" only to be turned down by two European giants could bring out his absolute best next year.
