Manchester United could turn their attention to Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan as Chelsea close in on a deal for Barcelona ace Pedro with the Argentine desperate to move to Old Trafford, according to reports from Record.
The Spanish World Cup winner looks set to join the Premier League champions despite serious interest from the Red Devils, which is a major blow for the North West club with just two weeks of the transfer window remaining.
However, United could move for an alternative in the shape of Gaitan, who is reportedly eager to join the English giants.
The Benfica ace has been consistently linked with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams throughout the summer, but a move has failed to come to fruition.
Yet a late deal appears possible, with the player himself favouring a move from Lisbon to Manchester.
He’s understood to have an offer on the table from Middle Eastern side Al Ahli, but the attacking midfielder is reluctant to move to a less competitive league in the prime of his career.
Gaitan, like Pedro, is comfortable on either flank and has a release clause of £24.7m in his contract.
