Paul Pogba is set to perform a U-turn and sit down for talks over a new contract at Manchester United, according to The Sun.

The France international had been unhappy at United under the management of Jose Mourinho but is now prepared to discuss terms over a potential new deal.

What's the word?

Mourinho and Pogba repeatedly clashed at United, with the tension coming to a head in December.

The Daily Telegraph reported on December 2nd that Mourinho told Pogba after a 2-2 draw with Southampton that he was "a virus".

According to The Sun, it is thought that Pogba was ready to quit the club, but he has enjoyed a new lease of life since the Portuguese's departure and the subsequent appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The World Cup winner has scored five goals in the wake of Mourinho's sacking and has also laid on four assists.

And he is now reportedly ready to commit his future to United, though he is keen to see an increase on his already engorged wages of £290,000-per-week.

Alexis Sanchez, per the report, earns £505,000-per-week, and Pogba wants to earn a similar sum to the Chile international.

Pogba wins the war

It was always inevitable that one of Pogba or Mourinho would eventually leave the club.

The pair were seemingly at war throughout the Portuguese's third season, with Mourinho at a loss as to how to bring the best out of the midfielder.

Solskjaer, in just six games, has done exactly that; Pogba has transformed into the game-changer he was signed to be, with his silky passing and emphatic flair adding genuine verve to the United midfield.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is out of work and may well be for some time after his implosion at United.

It was third-season syndrome once again - Mourinho previously failed during his third terms with Chelsea and Real Madrid - and he picked a fight with the wrong player.

Pogba has outlasted Mourinho in Manchester and is already reaping the rewards, seemingly freed from the constraints placed on him by his embittered former manager.

Pogba has won the war and the Manchester United fans who were bored to tears by Mourinho's tactics should celebrate that fact.
