Ole Gunnar Solskjaer threw most of us a major curve-ball with his team selection for the Manchester derby on Wednesday, a game in which his United side lost 2-0 after goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.
The Norwegian gave Matteo Darmian his first start in over three months, but as a right-sided centre-back in a three man defence with Ashley Young as a right wing-back. Strange.
Solskjaer also boldly gave Andreas Pereira just his fifth league start of the season – whilst these changes probably threw Pep Guardiola off, they didn’t do enough to prompt a better result than the 4-0 drubbing against Everton.
Who would win out of Man Utd’s treble winners and Man City today? Fans discuss in the video below…
So, even though those changes were widely unexpected, here’s our predicted lineup for the game against Chelsea this weekend…
As you can see, we’re predicting Solskjaer will ring some changes yet again after failing to see a good enough reaction against City to the embarrassment at Goodison Park.
Darmian, after he failed to even try and prevent Sane’s strike, could be dropped, whilst Anthony Martial may come in from the first whistle against the Blues this Sunday.
De Gea should keep his place despite a number of errors in recent week, while Romelu Lukaku remains on the bench even though United couldn’t find the net last time out.
If Solskjaer doesn’t see an improvement this weekend, who knows what team he will put out the following week.
