Proof Man United should think twice before cashing in on Rooney

Stop whatever you are doing! Manchester United are eager to sell Wayne Rooney. That’s the Wayne Rooney that captain’s their starting XI, is on the verge of breaking the club’s all-time scoring record and is still considered to be among an elite band of strikers in terms of reputation.

The Manchester Evening News have come forward with this bombshell, claiming that the 30-year-old may be shipped off to the Chinese Super League – where he could pocket around £500,000-per-week during the closing stages of his career – in a few months’ time, so long as they are able to find a replacement.

Granted, the Rooney of 2015 would have many fans clamouring to get him to Heathrow and strapped into the season of a Boeing heading for Shanghai, but ‘Wazza’ has looked rejuvenated in recent weeks…

As the numbers – crunched by – show, Rooney’s improvement since calendars flipped over to 2015 has been breathtaking. In seven games, the veteran forward’s conversion rate has improved by 14%, he’s averaging a goal every 126 minutes and seems to be getting in better positions, judging by the 3.6-shots-per-game he registered.

Too soon to let Rooney go? He’s not on the Wayne, after all…
