Sky Sports pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville has given his thoughts on the club's 4-0 Premier League defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

What's he said, then?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men made the short trip to Merseyside desperate for some form following UEFA Champions League exit and desperate for three points to reignite their top-four charge - they got neither in the Easter sunshine.

Instead of collecting an expected victory, the Red Devils were met by a more committed opponent in Marco Silva's men, chasing European football themselves, and were well and truly trounced.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after the match, here's what Neville had to say on the performance:

"I'm furious, to be honest with you, the fact that [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] has had to go over and apologise for them.

"I've often said about clubs in the last seven years, if you've got weeds in the garden then you've got to get rid of them. But there is some Japanese knotweed at that football club and it is attacking the foundations of the house and needs dealing with properly.

"Jose Mourinho, the fans stuck with him but wanted him out at the end, they aren't going to want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out, they aren't going to turn on him. Those players heads are well and truly on the line."

Blame the manager, not the knotweed

Whilst he wrapped it up in a gardening reference, it's not difficult to spot that the 44-year-old is having a pop at United players who haven't got the right attitude but he must blame the manager, not the knotweed.

In football, it's the job of the boss, Solskjaer in this case, to motivate their players and ensure they have the right attitude, any problems in mentality should be down to the gaffer, especially after the impact he's apparently made at Old Trafford.

If any star, for whatever reason, can't be geed up for the task at all then it is the job of Solskjaer to exclude them and not play them every week. I'm sorry Gary, he's responsible.
