The starting line-ups were confirmed at 2pm and are as follows. Man United: De Gea, Jones, Evans, Rojo, Valencia, Carrick, Mata, Blind, Rooney, Di Maria, Falcao. QPR: Green, Isla, Dunne, Onuoha, Vargas, Barton, Henry, Fer, Zamora, Austin.
Yet, the exclusion of one player has caused quite a storm on Twitter over the last hour or so. No, not Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, who was in the original team sheet but later revealed to be on the bench – that’s gone down relatively well with the travelling support.
Rather, the absence of QPR centre-back Steven Caulker. Despite Rangers currently boasting the worst defensive record in the league, the occasional England international’s performances have often exceeded those of his team-mates. A mistake last week against Burnley appears to have cost him a slot in the starting Xi, instead finding himself dropped to the bench, much to the dismay of the west London outfit’s avid Tweeters.
Here’s how they reacted on social media:
No Caulker…. Uh oh #qpr

@RobBrennan82 Onuaha's display against Sheffield United was disgraceful. Harsh on Caulker who has put up with changes around him all season

Are we to assume caulker has had a falling out with the management team?

Caulker dropped for Onouha. One mistake and Caulker dropped. Onouha has looked so shaky when he has played this season! #QPRvMUN
