Available for £12million due to Stoke City’s relegation, Premier League clubs will struggle to find a better pound-for-pound signing than Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.
The Switzerland international enjoyed his most potent campaign in English football last season with eight goals and seven assists, including a division-best five goals from outside the box.
That’s probably why Manchester United have reportedly been drawn to the attacking midfielder’s availability, although Shaqiri does come with his fair share of negatives as well – particularly a noticeably workshy attitude at times.
And it seems for a significant section of United supporters, the cons outweigh the pros. We recently asked Red Devils fans whether they’d back a swoop for Shaqiri but just 55% of those who took part in our poll voted yes, with a rather significant minority of 45% voting against the idea.
That suggests signing Shaqiri certainly won’t sit well with everybody at Old Trafford. So is it time for Jose Mourinho to look elsewhere? Let us know which attacking midfielder you’d like to see arrive at Old Trafford by commenting below…
