According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, Atletico Madrid want to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy this summer if they lose Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona, and we suggested that Manchester United should hijack any potential deal for the 31-year-old.

The Red Devils' attacking shortcomings were once again shown during the 1-0 FA Cup final defeat against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, where the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata failed to make an impact on proceedings.

The former duo in particular have come under sly criticism from Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, and Vardy would surely bring a major goal threat – he has scored 62 goals in 142 Premier League appearances for the Foxes – and give opposition defenders a hard time if he did arrive at Old Trafford.

We asked Man United supporters to vote on our poll to see whether they would want to see their club sign the England international this summer, but a majority 59% said they wouldn't.

Those fans, who are keen on Twitter for the club to re-sign their former £25.2m-rated attacking flop, obviously feel that Vardy is no better than someone like Rashford, and that the club should be aiming higher than a 31-year-old if they want to challenge rivals Manchester City for the top flight title next season.
