Rio Ferdinand believes that a minority of England fans may have disgraced themselves after chanting alleged racist abuse.
Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) have contacted FIFA and the Football Association is still waiting to be contacted over the allegations that travelling fans were singing alleged racist abuse about Rio and his brother Anton during the 8-0 victory in Serravalle.
The Red Devils defender pulled out of duty with the national side after being selected by Roy Hodgson for the double header against minnows San Marino and group toppers Montenegro.
If England fans are found guilty then Hodgson’s side could be forced into playing a game behind closed doors.
“You expect and accept banter from fans on the terraces as its part of what makes the game great, but racism is not banter, and from ya own fans. WOW.” Tweeted Ferdinand
“Always a small minority who ruin it for others.
“Let’s not jump to conclusions and assume though as it might just have been banter. We’ll see after the investigation.”
